As Arabella’s first chief strategy and impact officer, Hilary leads the development and implementation of firmwide strategy and is launching a new function to drive and measure Arabella’s impact. In this role, Hilary oversees Arabella’s advisory practice and champions its diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts. She is a silo-buster and dot-connecter committed to ensuring Arabella’s strategy, work with partners, and internal practices are all impact-oriented and centered in equity.
Hilary joined Arabella as its fifth employee and has worn many hats to shepherd it from startup to leader in the social sector. Prior to her current role, she oversaw Arabella’s client services, including its advisory and fiscal sponsorship practices. During her tenure, she has led philanthropic strategy development, impact evaluation, and implementation of multiple grant-making funds on issues including global health and development, education, conservation, and women’s equality. Hilary has steered her teams through growth in the number and diversity of projects, as well as through the acquisition of Blueprint Research + Design Inc. A self-described philanthropy geek, Hilary has a passion for effective giving and, in particular, deploying equitable practices, advocacy, and cross-sector partnerships to achieve greater good.
Hilary spent the decade prior to Arabella working in the nonprofit and public sectors. This included serving as an Emerging Leader Fellow for the US Department of Health and Human Services, where she developed evaluation measures for the Community Food and Nutrition Program, managed grant reviews for the Administration of Children and Families, and conducted monitoring and evaluation for Head Start grantees. Hilary holds a BA in sociology from the University of Colorado and an MA in public affairs with a concentration in nonprofit and public management from Indiana University’s School of Public and Environmental Affairs. Hilary lives in Seattle with her husband and rescue dog.
