Interest in the power and potential of impact investing—the use of return-seeking investments to pursue social and environmental goals—continues to grow, even as the practice expands across the globe. With that in mind, the Africa Grantmakers’ Affinity Group and Arabella Advisors partnered to host this webinar geared towards private foundations that covered the history and growth of the impact investing field, foundations’ role in impact investing, and the growth of impact investing in Africa. It also featured a discussion with a grantmaker that is beginning to make impact investments in Africa.
This webinar, which is the first in a two-part webinar series, features:
• Niamani Mutima, Executive Director, Africa Grantmakers’ Affinity Group
• Cynthia Muller, Director of Impact Investing, Arabella Advisors
• Scott Wallace, Co-Chair, Wallace Global Fund

Women are positioned as never before in history to make a huge difference in philanthropy, not only with their time and compassion, but also with their money. As women’s wealth and influence grows, organizations that want to engage them in philanthropy will have to shift their approaches to address women’s unique interests and leadership styles.
Recently, Managing Director Sam Beinhacker spoke with several leaders in engaging women in philanthropy to discuss what the coming shift of wealth to women means for the future of women in philanthropy. During a rich hour-long discussion, they covered topics ranging from the importance of a sense of community among women in philanthropy to the blurring of the lines between philanthropy and investing with the emergence of impact investing. They also covered a variety of other critical topics in the webinar, including two groups of women in philanthropy that warrant special attention: women of color and millennial women.
